Inside Amazon Prime: A Conversation with Jamil Ghani

Join the Harvard Business School Club of Seattle for an intimate fireside chat with Jamil Ghani, Vice President of Worldwide Prime at Amazon and HBS MBA.

Jamil leads the global Amazon Prime business, overseeing product, technology, marketing, decision science, operations, and finance for a membership program that now serves more than 200 million members across 26 countries. Under his leadership, the program has expanded into new categories including healthcare, grocery, and restaurant delivery.

In this conversation, we will explore how Amazon thinks about building and scaling Prime, what it takes to operate a multi-billion dollar global membership platform, and how the team balances customer obsession, experimentation, and financial discipline. Jamil will also reflect on his own leadership journey across Amazon, Target, Disney, General Mills, and BCG, and how his time at Harvard College and Harvard Business School shaped his approach to strategy and innovation.

Jamil Ghani, Worldwide Leader of Amazon Prime

Jamil Ghani is the Vice President of Worldwide Prime at Amazon, where he leads the global Prime membership program, including product, technology, marketing, decision science, operations, and finance. Under his leadership, Prime has expanded into new categories such as healthcare, grocery, and restaurant delivery. 

Before Amazon, Jamil served as Senior Vice President of Enterprise Strategy, Digital and Innovation at Target, and held leadership roles at The Walt Disney Company, General Mills, and The Boston Consulting Group. He holds a BA magna cum laude in Economics and Computer Science from Harvard College and an MBA from Harvard Business School, where he was named a Baker Scholar. Jamil lives in the Seattle area with his family.
